Want to prevent a hangover? Try eating asparagus?

Want to prevent a hangover by eating asparagus? You're going to ask me what this has to do with gardening. Well, the link is there, albeit rather tenuous, but it relates to vegetable gardening, so please bear with me.

December is the time of year for excess and overindulgence at the works' Christmas party or at home with loved ones. Whether that be food or alcohol, it happens. You usually eat a big plate of chips or pasta before a night out, but that doesn't alleviate the hangover; it just slows down the alcohol absorption so you don't get drunk too quickly.

What if I told you that eating asparagus before going on a night out can alleviate or even avoid a hangover? You'd think I was pulling your leg.

Well, eating asparagus before you start drinking can help protect your liver. The minerals and amino acids within it not only protect the liver; the enzymes in the asparagus also break down the alcohol and therefore alleviate a hangover.

So, next time, add some asparagus to your pre-night-out meal.
